The dray teams and
stagecoaches; including 'Cobb and Co', that serviced the goldfields made their way past the Court House Hotel, down along Four Mile Beach to the Four Mile mark, which is now called
Craiglie. Then over the Cassowary Range using "the Bump Track" which went all the way to Mount Molloy and then onto the Tablelands.
Port Douglas's glory was short lived. In 1885 the government killed any further development in
favour of Cairns.
By 1900 the population was only in the hundreds and when a severe tropical cyclone hit in 1911, it devastated the town. 16" of rain fell in a 24 hour period and tragically 2 people were killed...
